This week's baby animal is the Grizzly Bear. In hopes of Spring arriving, these guys should be coming out of hibernation soon!

During the winter months, mother Grizzlies dig dens for hibernation and give birth to their cubs. Born blind, hairless and toothless, these baby bears scavenge their way to nestle into their mother and nurse. Until spring comes along, the cubs grow and feed on their mother's milk. Finally, when the weather is warm the cubs have opened their eyes and grown their fur and teeth. Mother Grizzlies care for their young for 2 to 3 years until they venture off on their own.

During the time with their mother, the cubs learn to fend for themselves. These powerful predators eat on other animals (preferably the groundhog who kept Winter around), but much of their diet consists of roots, fruits, leaves, berries and nuts. They grow to be nearly 8 feet tall, can run up to 35 miles an hour and learn to climb trees as well.

Lets hope for Spring soon so we can LAY BACK AND RELAX!!

  1. I love these little guys! However, I feel like one definitely should not try to come between a mama bear and her cubs. They can be very aggressive regardless of how cute they are.
