This week is a great week! My dad is visiting!! I'm a HUGE daddy's girl, so I am beyond excited. In honor of my amazing father, this week's baby animal is the Seahorse.
Seahorses are one of the rarest animals on Earth when it comes to reproduction. Instead of the female seahorse carrying the babies, the male does. The female deposits her eggs into the male's pouch where he internally fertilizes them. For roughly 45 days he carries the eggs until they hatch.
When hatched, the newborn seahorses are fully formed and released into the shallow tropical water. They grow and range from .6 inches to 14 inches long.
Cheers to awesome dads!!
