In honor of all of my current travels, the Arabian Camel is the animal of the week!
Once this week is over, I'll have traveled through four different states and stayed in five different hotels. Source of transportation... a charter bus. Estimated bus time is approximately 25 hours. So as you can imagine, I've been fueling up.
Arabian camels have only one hump. This doesn't stop them from storing though. The hump holds up to 80 pounds of fat, which can be broke down into water and energy. The ability to travel up to 100 miles is possible because of their humps. They rarely sweat, so fluids can be stored for several weeks at a time. Once it is time to refill, camels can drink up to 30 gallons of water in just 13 minutes.
While I was researching and writing about these awesome animals, I could not close in comparison my life is to a camel's right now. Traveling, storing up on food, giving all of my energy, then scarfing down on some more. Yup, sounds about right.
Check out this guys' first journey!
Man this was an enlightening post. Who knew camels were so cool? I mean living in the desert, you better be able to store water somehow. Pretty extraordinary how they so easily evolved with the environment!
